Words that rhyme with Fellow

Fellow: two-syllable, a workaday word, vowel sitting on the long /oสŠ/, ending that tails off through an approximant. It's a word everyone uses โ€” which is what makes it powerful in a lyric. Only a handful of strict perfect rhymes survive, the family-rhyme classifier finds nothing, while the slant-by-vowel pool is enormous. Rhymes for fellow have a particular footprint: the deeper map matters more than the headline count. When strict matches feel exhausted, the assonance column is where you go fishing.

Why fellow rhymes the way it does

Fellow sits on a back-of-the-mouth /oสŠ/, transcribed /oสŠ/ in our engine, and tails off through an approximant. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 9 matches, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 11, assonance 9,445, and consonance 834. The empty family column matters less than it looks. Family rhymes are a strict-classifier construct; the songwriter's ear accepts most assonance matches in their place. What matters when you're writing: the ear forgives slants in service of meaning. If the strict rhyme is the predictable word, the assonance match will usually hit harder. Fellow is a word where the slant choice almost always reads as more thoughtful than the obvious end-rhyme.
