Words that rhyme with Lopsided

Map lopsided onto a phonological grid and you get: three-syllable, the short /ษ›/, ending that snaps shut on a stop. Lyrically, it reads as a word everyone uses. Its everydayness lets the song surprise around it. From the rhyme-data side: the strict-rhyme column is bounded, no family rhymes survive the strict family test, and the assonance column dwarfs the others. From the lyric side, it works as a workaday word. The slant pool is huge enough that you'll never need to repeat a rhyme.

Why lopsided rhymes the way it does

Lopsided is built around the centred /ษ›/ (/ษ›/); it's three-syllable and shuts cleanly on a stopped consonant. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 41 matches, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 167, assonance 3,031, and consonance 138. The empty family column matters less than it looks. Family rhymes are a strict-classifier construct; the songwriter's ear accepts most assonance matches in their place. What matters when you're writing: the ear forgives slants in service of meaning. If the strict rhyme is the predictable word, the assonance match will usually hit harder. Lopsided is a word where the slant choice almost always reads as more thoughtful than the obvious end-rhyme.
