Words that rhyme with Optic

Most songwriters treat optic as an unguarded everyday word, but the phonology underneath matters: two-syllable, vowel on the tight /ษช/, ending that spills into a fricative. Its everydayness lets the song surprise around it. Take the rhyme counts on their own terms: no strict pair turns up at all, the family-rhyme bucket is bare, the assonance pool is the one that won't run out. Take the lyric role separately and it's a stop-by-stop-grocery-shelf word. Let the assonance column shape the verse; the strict matches can punctuate it.

Why optic rhymes the way it does

In our engine, optic registers as a two-syllable word on the tight /ษช/ (/ษช/) that tails through a fricative. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 1 match, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 109, assonance 7,210, and consonance 14. That's a narrow strict column with a very deep slant well beneath it. Modern songwriting reads those slants as rhymes; the ear has been trained on them for a century. Practical: skim the strict column first and pick the two or three matches you can sing without thinking. Then move to assonance for the in-between lines. Optic reads as more memorable when the strict matches are reserved for the line endings that matter most.
