Words that rhyme with Quotation

Quotation: three-syllable, a non-image word, vowel sitting on the short /ษ›/, ending that lets the nasal carry the tail. It's a concept-word that wants a concrete rhyme to ground it. What the engine returns: there's plenty in the strict column, no family-rhyme matches turn up, and the assonance pool runs into the thousands. Lyric-wise, the word reads as a concept-anchor. Use the strict rhymes for the structural beats and let slant rhymes do the interior work.

Why quotation rhymes the way it does

Quotation is built around the front /ษ›/ (/ษ™/); it's three-syllable and hums to a nasal close. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 716 matches, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 556, assonance 4,765, and consonance 208. That's a deep perfect column. The song can ride strict rhymes from end to end, only sliding into assonance when the line needs to surprise. In practice: start at the top of the perfect column, scan family next, and reach for the assonance pool when the strict matches feel worn. A lyric that uses only strict rhymes for quotation tends to read as dated; the contemporary ear forgives โ€” and often prefers โ€” the slant.
