Words that rhyme with Smash

From a sound-design view, smash is a quotidian anchor on the short /รฆ/, one-syllable, and it spills into a fricative. Its everydayness lets the song surprise around it. Two readings: as data โ€” perfect rhymes hand you a small starter set, no family-rhyme matches turn up, the assonance pool has more matches than any verse will use; as lyric โ€” a low-register anchor. Use the assonance pool freely; the ear treats most of those matches as rhymes.

Why smash rhymes the way it does

In our engine, smash registers as a one-syllable word on the flat /รฆ/ (/รฆ/) that softens into a fricative tail. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 27 matches, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 21, assonance 6,663, and consonance 148. The empty family column matters less than it looks. Family rhymes are a strict-classifier construct; the songwriter's ear accepts most assonance matches in their place. In the room with a guitar: write toward the strict rhyme first, then go back through and replace the obvious ones with the assonance matches that earned their place. Smash is a word that benefits from the second pass.
