Words that rhyme with Trad

From a sound-design view, trad is a common-tongue word on the flat /รฆ/, one-syllable, and it closes on a hard stop. It's a word everyone uses โ€” which is what makes it powerful in a lyric. The word arrives in song as a household-word. When a songwriter asks what rhymes with trad, the pool tells a specific story: you won't run short of perfect rhymes, family-rhyme territory comes up dry, and the slant-by-vowel pool is enormous. Take the strict matches first; they have more range than the count suggests.

Why trad rhymes the way it does

Pull trad apart phonetically and you get a one-syllable word with a low-front /รฆ/ (/รฆ/) as the rhyme-bearing vowel; the close lands on a stopped consonant. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 54 matches, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 13, assonance 6,646, and consonance 888. That's a deep perfect column. The song can ride strict rhymes from end to end, only sliding into assonance when the line needs to surprise. How to use it: hold the strict matches for the moments the listener expects, and use the slants to surprise where they don't. Trad pairs especially well with assonance because the vowel column is deeper than the consonant column.
