Words that rhyme with Truth

You can read truth two ways: as a non-image word, or as a one-syllable shape on the central /สŒ/ that softens into a fricative tail. Abstract words like this work best when the surrounding line is sensory. Two readings: as data โ€” strict matches show up in low numbers, nothing lands in the family-rhyme column, the slant pool, matched on vowel alone, is huge; as lyric โ€” a word that wants concrete rhymes to ground it. Use the assonance pool freely; the ear treats most of those matches as rhymes.

Why truth rhymes the way it does

In our engine, truth registers as a one-syllable word on the unrounded /สŒ/ (/สŒ/) that lets the line dissolve into a fricative. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 10 matches, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 142, assonance 2,551, and consonance 81. The empty family column matters less than it looks. Family rhymes are a strict-classifier construct; the songwriter's ear accepts most assonance matches in their place. The songwriter's move is to pick a small set of strict rhymes for the chorus and open up to family and assonance through the verses. Truth rewards slant rhyming because the strict pool, when over-used, calls attention to itself.
