Words that rhyme with Moody

Moody: two-syllable, a word the verse uses to fix its colour, vowel sitting on the high /ɪ/, ending that doesn't close on a consonant at all. The line containing it usually sets atmosphere. Songwriters reach for it as a mood-painting word. Only a handful of strict perfect rhymes survive, no near-perfect family slants exist for this one, and the slant pool is enormous on the vowel side. Use the assonance pool freely; the ear treats most of those matches as rhymes.

Why moody rhymes the way it does

The phonology of moody is a two-syllable core: the high /ɪ/ (/ɪ/), then it leaves the vowel hanging open. In our 54,000-word dictionary the perfect-rhyme pool returns 17 matches, family rhymes 0, additive and subtractive together 137, assonance 3,567, and consonance 836. The empty family column matters less than it looks. Family rhymes are a strict-classifier construct; the songwriter's ear accepts most assonance matches in their place. How to use it: hold the strict matches for the moments the listener expects, and use the slants to surprise where they don't. Moody pairs especially well with assonance because the vowel column is deeper than the consonant column.
