Installing the beta (Mac)
Open the downloaded Rein.dmg and drag Rein into Applications. If macOS says the app is from an unidentified developer: System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll down → “Open Anyway”. (Notarized builds won’t show this.) On first use Rein asks to install a small helper — that’s what makes fan, battery and clamshell control possible, and you approve it once.
Rein Remote (iPhone) quick answers
- Pairing: Mac → Rein → Remote → Show pairing code → scan the QR with the phone.
- “Reconnecting…” forever: the Mac is asleep or offline. It reconnects automatically once the Mac is awake.
- Drag / select text: press-and-hold the trackpad (you’ll feel a tick), then drag — or hold the Left click button and drag with another finger.
- Forget this Mac: the ••• menu, or from the reconnect screen.
Rein for Mac quick answers
- Everything back to normal: hit Reset to Auto — or just quit. Rein’s rule is that the worst case is always plain macOS default behaviour, even after a crash.
- Casting: 4K MKV casting works out of the box — the media engine is bundled inside the app.
- Versions: the phone shows its version under the Mac’s name; the Mac app shows its own in Settings.
Requirements
Rein: Apple Silicon Mac, macOS 14 or later. Rein Remote: iOS 17 or later.
